This seems to happen to most pregnant women……especially at 1 in the morning….and when you know you’ve made a few luscious pies…and just happen to have ice cream on hand…..
When I got pregnant, I weighed 107, but due to fluid retention, climbed to 150. My 4lb. 1oz. son was born in the early morning hours. By supper time (with frequent trips to the bathroom), I had dropped to 132.
My obstetrician said, “I believe in fat mothers and healthy babies.” I took this too literally and gained 50 pounds! It was a long time before I got into my pre-baby clothes again.
With that third one, I was diagnosed several months before my due date with gestational diabetes. I worked with a dietician and we found one meal I just had to have and then focused each meal on what I ate to be healthy and amounts allowed. For breakfast I measured my grapenuts and learned to use skim milk with it, weighed the green beans and meat/chicken for dinner, but I had that small french dip sandwich or cheddar broccoli soup each day! It was hard to feed the rest of the family but I basically stopped gaining weight.
With my first, I gained about 25 pounds and quickly lost the weight after he was born. But with the second and third, it was like my body said “Let’s go all out” and I gained 40 with the second one, lost only 20, and gained almost 60 with the last one. That was 25 years ago. I had to come to terms that I would never be 105lbs again.
Both times when I was pregnant I lost 8 pounds the first trimester. The smell and taste of food was unpleasant and I could barely eat. I gained a normal amount the next 6 months and had healthy babies.
She must be carrying a girl. It’s long been said that if the woman doesn’t look pregnant from behind, she’s probably carrying a boy; if she does look pregnant from behind, it’s probably a girl.It was thought to be an old wives’ tale, but then the doctors noticed that boys and girls carry differently. Boys often carry more vertically in the tummy, while girls tend to carry sideways. 100% accurate? No, only about 85% to 90%.

The ankle comment make me think she may be retaining fluids.

I can not imagine what is takes to make another human being but if it includes a lot of potato chips and ice cream. So be it.

While pregnant with one of mine, I simply could not go to sleep until I had a tomato sandwich absolutely smothered in Miracle Whip. Every night!

Take it easy on yourself Ellie – this too will pass, even more quickly once the baby starts to nurse.

Don’t they say w/ boys it’s just the front, but if it’s a girl, it’s all over?
