I never knew Snoopy was a Trekkie! That’s so cool! A Sulu fan apparently.

Star Trek (The Original Series) had been cancelled in July 1969 but became a big hit when it came into broadcast syndication throughout the 1970s and 1980s. The first Star Trek fan convention was held on January 21, 1972 in New York City, only two weeks before this strip was first published, and was perhaps what inspired Schulz to make the strip.

And James T. Kirk (William Shatner), the last survivor of the original series, is still alive and kicking and is still presenting programs at the age of 91 (as of March 22, 1931).
