From July 2021 to June 2022, PEN America’s Index of School Book Bans lists 2,532 instances of individual books being banned, affecting 1,648 unique book titles. The 1,648 titles are by 1,261 different authors, 290 illustrators, and 18 translators, impacting the literary, scholarly, and creative work of 1,553 people altogether. And this is getting worse every year. Texas being the state with the most book bans. The USA threatens to being among the countries of the world with the most book bans. books aren’t being banned, they are being removed from public school libraries. it’s a horrible thing for school kids, but the books are still available. i’ll argue the bigger problem is how text books are chosen.
