Snoopy sits on the doghouse. Woodstock flies toward him. Snoopy thinks, "Birds have some peculiar attributes . . ."<BR><BR> Woodstock flies away from Snoopy. Snoopy thinks, "When birds fall asleep on tree branches, their claws automatically tighten to keep them from falling off . . ."<BR><BR> Woodstock flies toward Snoopy. Snoopy continues to think, "Which can be very hard on the branches . . ."<BR><BR> Woodstock lands on Snoopy's nose. Snoopy closes his eyes and grits his teeth. He thinks, "Or someone's nose!"<BR><BR>

Actually, it’s the weight of the bird’s body resting on the legs that makes the talons contract. They automatically clutch anything they sit on, so then they don’t let go if they fall asleep.

Schulz used this as the reason Snoopy stays on his doghouse. His ears contract and keep him on top of it!
