    Well, after Alexander died, his Macedonian Empire was partitioned among his family, friends, and generals into several pieces, most notably the Ptolemaic Kingdom in Egypt, the Seleucid Empire (which spanned much of what is today the Middle East), and a few others. And then as the Seleucids and other fragments of Alexander’s empire declined, the Roman Republic and Empire began its domination of the Mediterranean…
