Sally and Charlie Brown are sitting on the ground playing a board game. He says,"Your shake." She looks up and he asks,"What's the matter?"<BR><BR> She continues to look up and replies,"Listen!" He asks,"What is it?"<BR><BR> She replies,"I thought I heard something on the roof...."<BR><BR> They run off and she says,"Santa Claus?" He says,"Reindeer?"<BR><BR> They stand by the window and look out at the falling snow. She asks,"Can you see anything big brothers?" He replies,"No, it's too dark...besides, it's starting to snow again...."<BR><BR> They stand by the Christmas tree and she asks,"Do you really think it could be Santa Claus and his reindeer?" He replies,"Why not? Who else could it be?"<BR><BR> The Beaglescout and his troop are walking across the roof. The Beaglescout thinks,"I hate to admit it, men, but I think we're lost again!"<BR><BR>

Who else could it possibly be? Well, Charlie Brown, if you had known your dog and his scouts well enough, how they REALLY had gotten LOST just a few weeks ago in such INCLEMENT weather, perhaps ANOTHER possibility, as to who it was walking on the roof, would have occurred to you.(Ha,ha.)Yes, silly of me, I know—it’s only because it was Xmas Eve, that Schulz had meant to make what we see in closing panel, the punch line of the strip.

It’s the IRONIC TWIST, of course, that the punch line to this strip has to it, as seen in closing panel. That was what I had meant awhile back, when I said it’s because this is Xmas Eve.
