That tree was not meant to be.

Should have put it in there deeper.

That is one opportunistic squirrel, I would say.

You just know that squirrel is saying, “nuts to Red and Rover”!

Well, there goes the acorn.

One day my husband and I were sitting on our front porch watching a little black squirrel burying a nut. He worked and worked at it. He finally finished and ran off. Just seconds later a big gray squirrel came down from the tree, dug up the nut and ran off with it.

Squirrels will watch other squirrels bury nuts and then steal them.

At least the squirrel gets dinner!

Most nuts are forgotten by the squirrels who hide them, but there’s enough bird feeders in the area to keep them happy. Every spring, I have dozens of young trees coming up in my flower beds. Those lazy squirrels choose the beds because they are easy to dig up.

Well the activity and hopefulness made our boys happy. That’s something!

Now we know why Rover hates squirrels so much.

Nuts to you, squirrel.
