I’m gay (well, lesbian) and I never bought this coming out story when it first was printed. Mark hasn’t dated in a while therefore he’s gay? By that logic most of the single gay people I know are secretly straight (and vice versa). Somewhere in his life Mark might have noticed if he was sexually attracted to men, and we never see him have that revelation. I also noticed (spoiler alert) that his forthcoming relationship in this arc was not developed as all of the heterosexual romantic threads were. We never see his dating process, he just winds up with the ugliest man in the strip who also has diametrically opposed politics to his own. I understand the opposites attract theory but this was a bit over the top.

Off topic… the Washington Post where I read Doonesbury is not allowing me to view the Flashbacks without subscribing. Is this the new normal?

Yes, “Democracy dies in darkness, and we shall have darkness descend upon every word we write unless you pony up” No Twitter links, nothing.

I have purchased subscriptions to WaPo in the past, but their unique penurious guarding of content (now Doonesbury, ffs) really puts me off

(Click on his avatar, and you’ll see that he is, indeed, an old old man. The above paragraph is actually fairly typical of " Kat ".)
