Ronald Reagan was sworn in as president on this date. Years later, it would be determined that his campaign staff had been negotiating with Iran and selling them military equipment, committing treason in order to get the American hostages released from Tehran. The Reagan Administration would also sell arms to Iran in order to fund the anti-Communist Contras in Nicaragua, which would send some people to prison until George H.W. Bush pardoned them.
