Dottle is the slimy liquid that accumulates in pipe stems. It’s the reason for pipe cleaners.

What he’s got is a thing called a Cognitive Frieze. Right away, I’m like, yeah, Brain Freeze, that’s cool. But it’s weird. They read the memories stored chemically in the brain. It’s like going around town peeking in shop windows to get a feel of the town. They’ve got organic nanos that can do that, and communicate locally a couple of centimeters. They form a bot net to stream the data out, then they go dormant and dissolve into harmless stuff that flushes out naturally. You get a chemical memory map of the brain.

That’s a pretty severe punishment you’re grinding out for a bit of pipe tobacco-residue upon your window-framing strips.
