there’s an interesting optical illusion. Rose is sitting on a step, but if you count the edges of the step verticals and horizontals, from the bottom of the staircase, she is sitting on a vertical. Maybe she has one of those steps that goes up impossibly to itself. :-)
Most of my cats have been very empathetic. If I’m really upset about something, they will be right there with me. I had one who would pat my arm if I was crying, and look at me with a worried expression (I don’t know how else to explain it, but she was an unusually expressive, and very vocal kitty who would actually engage in conversation. She wanted so badly to be understood!)
I was at my God-sister’s house for Thanksgiving one year. We were cooking and I gave her cat, a Tonkinese , a little bit of meat. Her cat followed me all over the house meowing which sounded like “ma’am, ma’am”. My sister put the cat in the basement so we could finish cooking in peace. I felt bad because it was my fault. After dinner she let the cat back upstairs and he started at me again saying “ma’am, ma’am”. Tonkinese are slightly cross eyed like a Siamese, so this was quite comical.

Rose, you should be fortunate that Peekaboo hung around as long as she did…

Aww Peekaboo you could listen a little longer than that. There may be some cuddling and even a treat in it for you.

Both my cats like to listen to one of us talking. The smaller one even interjects with comments of her own!

Actually Peekaboo came to sleep on the warm, clean laundry. When she found out it hadn’t been washed yet…

You don’t have to go out in the workforce, have your health, and only one kid. How overwhelmed can you be!

Cats are not really very good at Listening.
But, they are often happy to take a Nap while you talk.

On empathy reserve dogs have a better score and that tilts the balance towards canines as better pets.

How can a stay-at-home mother with one kid be overwhelmed?
DKHenderson 9 months ago
Peekaboo used to be very empathetic. She once addressed the cat readers of the strip: “Have you forehead-rubbed your human today?”
