When we were in Germany we would invite my husband’s flight platoon over for Thanksgiving and Christmas, most of them were young unmarried soldiers. One Thanksgiving I made a jalapeno dip with chips and other munchies, and of course beer. When dinner was ready they hardly ate a thing! The next holiday dinners they came to they got carrot sticks, celery, cucumbers, etc for pre meal snacks. Didn’t have many leftovers after that!

My dad would slice a wee nugget off the roast beef/pork/lamb/chicken/duck/turkey and say to the dog, "here’s your strawberry’’. Over time “strawberry” became the word we used for any small mouthful before the meal.

For Nate, a “little turkey” probably means half the breast!

I think I look forward to the leftovers almost as much as the main meal. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, I think. Especially since it involves gathering with my family. We are weird in that we actually LIKE each other, even when we are all in the room at the same time!! LOL

My wife’s aunt once made 3 or 4 turkeys for a Thanksgiving dinner. One of them made it to the table after the sampling.

Just when things were getting unbearable, Mom would pass out pieces of the neck to nibble on…

My father, when carving a turkey or a roast, would take a little piece and call it “chef’s prerogative.” I still use that.

Mom would call it “spoiling one’s appetite”. But I suspect this doesn’t apply to Nate.

    Good evening Crew!
