My dad enlisted in the late 30s and then came December 7, 1941. he actually had all his shots for the Pacific, then got redirected to Europe. He pasted at the age of 95.
Walt, that’s because it was the day (month, day and hour) the armistice took effect in WWI. It was renamed Veteran’s day in 1954 to honor veterans of all wars, not just “the war to end all wars” (which it obviously didn’t).
I was born in 1950 and remember people who called it Armistice Day long past 1954.
Veterans Ray is more inclusive, but still backs up on the people who were on the home front. Rationing, women’s clubs, mothers going to the factories to make what was needed, blue stars and Gold Stars in the windows, all in support of our veterans.

I remember Walt Kelly channeled through Pogo how he preferred Armistice Day to Veteran’s Day … By ANY name, we honor them ALL!!
