Michael: Ah, the secret to automatic shooting. See the hoop? Jack: Yeah. Michael: See outside the hoop? Jack: Uh, you mean like the rest of the planet? Michael: Yeah. When you shoot the ball, make sure it does not go there. Mondo: You mean, make sure it goes in the hoop? Michael: Well, I guess that's another way to look at it.

part of my motorcyle riding education was an older rider telling me “don’t look at the potholes if you want to avoid them, look at where they aren’t,” doesn’t mean you avoid them all but it’s amazingly helpful.

Right, I was taught pretty much the same. Imagine the ball going in the hoop before you shoot.Same with any sport. Oh and be sure and use the force!

So, shooting hoops is a lot like flying. You just through yourself at the ground/Earth and miss it.
