The referee has the responsibility to make sure the balls are properly inflated (not like the New England Patriots). I had a gauge and a pump. In upper level matches it is the responsibility of the 4th official. Properly inflated, they are pretty hard not the marshmallow balls most kids bring to the field. After that you have to toss and spin the ball to make sure it is not lopsided.
