We took a tour of a bird sanctuary once, led by one of the ornithologists who worked there. He pointed to a bird and said “This is what we ornithologists like to call an LBJ – a Little Brown Job.”
I definitely vote for the laser-enhanced field marks, with my fading vision and hearing. And little brown jobs (and the little gray jobs I saw in Mexico) should just wear discernible labels. Love this strip!
Large hummingbirds would be scary, they are aggressive enough at the size they are. I’ve had them get in my face and buzz me when I am in the way of a flower they want.
What I would like is a bird identification book that shows their bellies in flight because that’s how I’m most likely to see them. (Especially the raptors,)

You could weaponize the hummingbirds by fitting them with the laser projectors before enlarging them. And then give them elegant blankets.

They’re just fine the way they are.
