Trump has even turned comic comments into class warfare. I know America has been through civil battles (and not just the obvious one) before – but this feels different. I hope we can pull it together again someday but I truly don’t see how other than just wait for the older GOP crowd to die off.
Jimmy Carter comes to mind as an example. Honest to a fault and look how long he lasted in politics. Fortunately he turned into a Statesman and has been able to do a lot of good since then.
I’ve felt the left treats politics like a debate and the right treats it like a war (Their favorite go-to word, “War on…”. Or as in the Ian Hunter song “Ain’t it a shame we ain’t got a war We’ll just have to practice on the sick and the poor”). War where the first casualty is truth.
