Years ago we got a dog bed and the dog refused to get on it.

So I got down and half climbed on the bed … the dog loved the bed from then on! He just didn’t like the new smell. Once a member of his “pack” had used the bed, he was okay with it.

Once again Brian scores big with the facial expressions. Especially Annie in panel three!

Sophie: “Ya, we do own the parents, but sometimes they forget their place.”

Yep – when I first put in a doggie door, my male Border Collie was fine with it, but my female Lab was very suspicious and just sniffed at it. When she did deign to try it, she tried to follow the Border Collie through, but mis-timed it and the flap swung back and bopped her on the nose. That did it! She wanted nothing to do with the infernal contraption. I ended up having to strap the flap up so she could come and go sans swinging flap and then gradually re-introduce it. It took a couple of weeks for her to work out the timing and realise the flap wasn’t out to get her (or her nose).Memories… both dogs now sadly deceased, but the doggie door is still there… maybe one day…

Wonder if the wee tricksey beasties (the cats) will use this?

One of our Goldens is in complete agreement with Annie. While they both use the door freely all day, when it’s time for their “outside go potty” trip first thing in the morning or just before bed, she’ll dance in front of the door waiting for me to open it before she’ll head out.

Our Zuzu Petals loves her doggy door to go into the yard for the purpose of barking at passersby (whom she spotted through the front window), but if she has to go potty, she’ll ring the bells for one of us to accompany her outside. I think she’s afraid if we don’t see her go, we won’t give her a treat. When she rings the bells, I often sing, “Can I get a witneeeess?”

Our cat will NOT go into the laundry room via the cat flap. He’ll sit there and complain – quite loudly – that he is starving to death, but he’ll come out through the cat door with no problem. Go figure.

Once they get used to it they will be in and out 100 times a day. They seem to love to make that flap, flappity flap as much as they do actually getting where they are going.

Thanks for the laughs guys….love the reason why.

I don’t know Annie, but I think you may still need to have someone open the door for you. That’s gonna be tight fit for you.

But remember now, anything living outside can come in.
