For those who missed it when it happened, when Northwest laid off a number of their employees in 2006 they gave the employees a booklet titled “101 ways to save money.” One of the 101 items on the list was “don’t be shy about pulling something you like out of the trash.”
Another suggestion was “getting hand-me-down clothes and toys for your kids from friends and relatives.”

Northwest (Orient) Airlines. I haven’t thought of them in years. I gave up trying to keep track of what airlines are in or out of business.
