Higher Authority: “He is forgiven. Your son better hope the peddler in the big red suit will forgive him on the eve of my son’s birthday 26 days from now!” Happy Thanksgiving
Baldo what were you thinking. I see no tamales. Aw I like multi culture menus. Always some extra special. One year the Mexican descent family next brought over tamales and Chile Rellenos. My dad had my mom learn to make ever since we had them every Christmas and thanksgiving.
For those of you celebrating Thanksgiving, I offer this blessing that I say before meals:
Te damos gracias, Señor, por la comida que tenemos que comer y la compañía con la que estamos. ¡Mantennos fuertes! ¡Mantennos saludables! ! ¡Mantennos juntos! ¡Mantennos creciendo en nuestro amor mutuo y por Ti!
We thank You, Lord, for the food we have and the company we are with. Keep us stron! Keep us Healthy! Keep us together! Keep us growing in our love for each other, and for You…
We used to have a traditional Thanksgiving with my mom’s family. Then my aunt on that decided that she was Kosher so we would go to a Kosher deli restaurant for Thanksgiving. Mom would make turkey during the year so my sisters and I would order corned beef as we never had that.
On the other hand my husband’s family is Italian and they would always have antipasto and then a pasta course for Thanksgiving.
This is apparently normal. Originally when people were surveyed about what they had for Thanksgiving the answer was “turkey and all the trimmings”. When pressed on the trimmings, however, it was found that families tended to have different trimmings and like our two families – the trimmings varied by ethnic background of the people surveyed.
Both families wanted us for Thanksgiving dinner – the only family type holiday that both families celebrated (Jewish/Catholic mixed couple). We eventually solved this problem by having both families to our home for Thanksgiving. Italian or Jewish trimmings? Well, as colonial era reenactors we went with Colonial Williamsburg traditional recipes.
Now I cook the meal just for the two of us 12 lbs of turkey – 2 people.

I actually prefer Baldo’s idea. I don’t like turkey. Have a great Thanksgiving everyone

SERGIO! This is a festive family gathering, we don’t open the meal by humiliating a child.

I agree Turkey sucks. We did seafood. Crab legs and seafood stew.
