When I got a heated bed for Silver (the House Varmint), his first 15 minutes on it were spent in kitty ecstasy – he then sat bolt upright and stared intently at me, and I know the message was “And WHY didn’t I have this years ago???”
So, my cat has decided that pulling the towel off the towel rack in the bathroom drops the towel over the heater vent to provide a soft warm bed for him. I put one towel down on the floor so he wouldn’t pull the other down, and he has decided that two towels are better….
When I was growing up, we had the vents on the floor. There was one on either side of my daddy’s recliner. Every summer my kat would claim one of them as his own. My daddy would feel the cool air stop and look over to find Kat blinking sweetly at him. He’d fuss. Kat would just purr and go to sleep.
Bean does have a heated bed, after a fashion. It’s called a “Cozy Spot” and is marketed as a hand warmer, but it’s just the right size for a cat – even a relatively large one like Bean. His is on the side table I have my mousepad on.
For a really large cat (e.g., a Maine Coon or such), you might need two – but they draw only about 30 watts each, so they’re a reasonably economical catwarming device.

You’d better get him a heated bed for Christmas or else start checking your shoes.

The fluffy comforter is on the bed with the electric mattress pad. Mine is complaining because we haven’t started the wood-burning stove.

Mittens remember if mama doesn’t have her laptop for work, you might not get liver treats.
