Z51, Thanks for the web page. That is a great site.Dr. Raman Prinja explains just how vast space really is in his book, ‘Wonders of the Planets.’ He states if the solar system was reduced in scale by a factor of 15 billion, the sun would equal the equivalent of a 4" wide light bulb. If we put that light bulb on the goal line of football field in Tampa, Florida, Jupiter would be the size of a small marble on the 35 yard line. Earth would be a mere speck of dust on the 12 yard line. Pluto would be 3 and a half footballs away. The closest star system, Alpha Centauri, would consist of a few light bulbs somewhere in the city of San Diego, California. Imagine how long our journey to San Diego would take just being a tiny, dinky, microscopic speck on a tiny dust speck?
Because, if you use humanity as a measuring stick, advanced civilizations only seem to last a thousand years or two. The chance than any civilization would last long enough to detect manmade transmissions from our planet, and be able to travel here to visit before the civilization that sent the transmission fell is virtually nil – and that’s assuming they had faster-than-light travel.

Maybe they’ve seen the 8,000+ objects that litter our outer space and don’t want to risk coming through our junk yard.
