My husband has a 5 drawer chest. He has socks and underwear taking up about half of the top drawer. Each of the other drawers are full with clothing. However, other than the socks and underwear, he does not wear the clothes in the other drawers and the clothes he does wear that should be in the drawers – tee shirts for sleeping in – are stacked on top of the dresser. Similarly, he has a shoe rack on the inside of his closet door. He does not wear the shoes that are on it – and there is plenty of room for the shoes that he does wear to go on the rack – but he keeps those in front of his dresser on the floor and trips over the constantly and swears at them – but won’t put them in the closet so that he doesn’t trip over them.
He has the equivalent of a over full drawer in my dresser – a half size drawer with small reenacting clothing items (socks, handkerchiefs, neckcloths and the like) and reenacting small items (pocket watch, garters, etc.). He also keeps a blue zipper bag with more small items for reenacting (like hair ribbons) in the half size drawer under that one which also has ALL of my small items for reenacting. He also has old socks and extra underwear in half of one of the full sized drawers in my dresser.
I really don’t get concept of keeping what one WILL be wearing out and the items that one will probably never wear in the drawers and closet – and this is after we weeded out stuff he has never used since we have lived here (31 years).
