Orange refers to the protestant irish (whom the catholic Irish distrusted and feared, as having more money, history in the US, approval by the WASP majority, and thus individual clout). Orange Irish were reputed to fill many roles in the klan, as well (and brought Klan tactics to Canada). On the flip side, the Orange Irish distrusted the “mob rule” (labor organizing / group power) of Catholic Irish laborers. People will have differing sympathies here. Regardless, this is NOT a lighthearted cartoon about “colors.”
