A very interesting collection of Brownies! I recognize Teddy Roosevelt, Uncle Sam, and a pair I feel I should recognize, plus some generic representatives of Irish, Native American and Low Country origin. A representative assortment of Americans visiting their new Philippine protectorate.

“Find the Duke” – the one in the top hat and monocle – was a popular game with the books, which had crowded full page illustrations. A predecessor to “Where’s Waldo?”

Such quaint language! The word amain, marked as archaic in the dictionary, hasn’t been seen in many a year.
