[ Word balloon placed at 9 o’clock ] 1. Willie Winkie had a fine walk in the country the other day and met with lots of strange and interesting things. Right in the beginning he saw from afar on the road two giant poplars, like sentinels, with arms held forbiddingly on high. A bit farther on a whole regiment of cherry trees peered curiously down at the little fellow to see how he would manage about passing the poplars. It was rather intimidating, especially as there were some big clouds in the sky, who certainly looked queer. ``To the courageous belong the world,’’ thought Willie, and pushed bravely on. So he passed the poplars and even stuck his tongue in his cheek at the clouds.
[ Word balloon placed at 12 o’clock ] 2. After a while he came to a field on the side of the hill, where the sheaves-of-wheat resembled a crowd of little, old grannies plodding along to town.
[ Word balloon placed at 3 o’clock ] 3. Then suddenly he stood before a jolly-looking culvert with a black, open mouth and a mane of g rass, which made him look like a lion.
[ Word balloon on the far left, bottom, around 7 o’clock ] 4. Wow! What was that? Willie Winkie stood quite still in amazement. He found himself face to face with an elephant, and out of the tree-tops of the neighboring wood he saw a screaming eagle and a grinning-jawed crocodile arise. But all of a sudden he laughed out loud! ``I was really fooled that time!’’ The elephant really is nothing but an old tree trunk and the eagle and the crocodile only tops of trees.

I enjoy “Wee Willie Winkie’s World” much better than I thought I would.
It reminds me to open my mind to indulge in a bit of creativity in the everyday.

Amazing work. The detail, the lettering, the unconventional panel sequence—as sophisticated today as it was then..
