Patty stands near the curb, looks in front of her, and shudders.<BR><BR> She runs off down the lane in a panic.<BR><BR> She runs towards the porch leading to the house.<BR><BR> She runs into the house and slams the door.<BR><BR> Charlie Brown, who is sitting in a chair reading, looks around at her and says,"What are you doing home? I thought you went to the library..." She shudders and replies, "I didn't make it..."<BR><BR> He stands next to her by the table with the flowers as she puts her hands to her mouth, shudders and exclaims, "I got as far as the corner where they have the traffic signals....that's when I saw it!"<BR><BR> He asks, "Saw what?" She puts her hands over her eyes in panic and replies, "The red hand!"<BR><BR> She remembers looking up at the traffic signal as the red 'Don't Walk' hand appears.<BR><BR> He stands and watches as she collapses in a bean bag concluding, "I got scared and came home!"<BR><BR>

Back then, pedestrian crossing signals that used the hand and body symbols weren’t as common, compared to today where you see them everywhere (and at really busy or dangerous intersections, they often have a countdown timer accompanying the flashing hand phase.)
