It’s not socialism when the individual owner of the business freely chooses to give away samples to potential customers. It becomes socialism when the government intervenes and compels the business owner to perform the same act.

Keith’s wife is confused. When the business owner gives away something willingly, it’s usually a smart capitalist technique to generate sales. When the government dictates you must give things away, that is fascism. If they take your business away from you, that is socialism.
