We left SF because it was too expensive. It’s a shame, as we loved it there. We’re in the Inland Empire now, and it’s nice enough.

I checked some 2 bedroom apartments in SF on Zillow, and they’re running $4000/month and up. That’s $48,000/year. The median income in the US is $44,000 ($61,000 for households). I’m not sure how much a decently successful cartoonist makes, but that probably explains this Wikipedia entry: “Previously a resident of San Francisco … He is now based in the Research Triangle area of North Carolina.”

I’ve lived in Boston and Seattle, of the two, go for Boston (grew up in Boston area, lived in Seattle for 14 years, moved back to Boston). It greatly increases your chances of getting that lobster roll, not to mention fried clams with bellies. I will say that your chances of getting tickets to a Red Sox game are better in Seattle, though. Can’t speak to San Francisco, but visited there once and liked it.
