There used to be a Dunkin Donuts across the street from the old police station. When they built a new police station a mile away, that Dunkin Donuts closed. Coincidence, I’m sure.

As Jim Gaffigen said “You know who loves doughnuts besides cops? EVERYONE!!”

Several years ago, while visiting a family member in Boston, we stopped at a small store that was actually two shops in one.

Half of the store was police supplies, like billy clubs, handcuffs, and other things that your average police officer would need. The other half of the store was a donut shop.

    I’m not making this up.

I remember thinking that it was kind of odd that a police officer would have to buy his/her own billy club, etc. I would have expected the police department to supply such equipment — but what do I know? Maybe private security cops buy their own stuff. In any event, it was clearly a serious equipment shop for real cops, not some kind of “cop/donut” joke or a place for police hobbyists (if there is such a thing) to get equipment for some kind of role-playing.

We were in Wash D.C. one year for Police Week, one of our favorite memories was going on a tour of locally owned donut shops with several policemen & policewomen. We had a blast!
