    I’d almost forgotten about that “end of the world” (this strip is from 2012). By now, I’ve lived through a couple of dozen predicted “ends of the world,” and more than a few “dawns of new ages.”

    That reminds me of a German TV series I once saw that tracks a family through much of the 20th century. After the Second World War ends, the grandmother, reading a newspaper, says, “Oh, I see we’re going to have a new era. I’ve already lived through five new eras. I’m getting tired of them.”

    I think this one was about the Aztec calendar ending. Some people seem to think that other cultures have mystical ties to the universe ours doesn’t, so reaching the last existing unit of an non-European calendar must be far more cosmically significant than reaching the end of December.
