Nice! I spotted my first hooded mergansers late winter, early spring of this year in a nearby creek, a pair swimming together among the geese and a few mallards. I had to look them up to identify them, but felt they were rather unusual the moment I spotted them.

Weird ducks don’t so much migrate as settle in and weird out.
