I think movie theatres will slump worse than they did in the 1980s, but survive at a lower level.

Dunno. Yesterday I went to the 1:45pm showing of the new Star Wars film, middle of a Monday afternoon two days before Christmas, and it was the English-audio version with French subtitles (er, I live in France), and while the place wasn’t packed out, there were more people than I expected. So I think Betty’s on to something in the second panel.

I was at a convention just before Thanksgiving and one of the sessions was a History of Crime movies.

In spite of several huge hits, there was a drop in total viewership in the country for 2019 according to those who count that sort of stuff. Could be the start of a trend.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is a “long-form mafia movie”?

No, Betty, not as long as Scorsese, De Niro, and Pesci have breath in their bodies… ☺

Didn’t Netflix just release two movies online and to theaters on the same day?

The movie was released in theaters so it would qualify for possible Academy Award nominations. That’s the only reason they bothered doing it.
