“Fresh fruitcake” is something of an oxymoron anyway. My childhood friend’s mother (we are still close friends nearly 60 years later) used to make fruitcakes that she aged in either rum or brandy for nearly three years, soaking them with booze once a month until she felt they were ready to serve.
