This hits too close to home for me. When I was transferred to a nearby city I was unable to sell our home so I rented it to a family that had kids with gerbils that got loose and ended up living/nesting in the heating ducts.
Five years ago, I got my grand-niece a CD of “Just the Songs” from “Frozen.” It was played every day in the SUV when she was driven to school and back until the SUV was totaled in an accident. Her mom swears it wasn’t deliberate.
I got one of those, and then found out that the gerbils can chew their way out of the plastic habitat and get loose in the house. WHY DON’T THEY TELL YOU THAT WHEN YOU BUY IT??? But then I bought an expensive non-killing mousetrap and baited it with peanut butter, and within a day caught them all.

That dozen gerbils will become easily three dozen inside of two months. And if they become overcrowded, they will turn cannibalistic.
