Many years ago when I was in college I was in Fred’s position (but armed with an umbrella) when “the splash” happened, and the girl walking ahead of me was going to get doused. Chivalrously, I used the umbrella to protect her. It might be romantic if we had struck up an acquaintance, gotten married, raised a family and lived happily ever after as a result, but in real life it never went beyond her saying “thank you” and walking off to her next class.
