Patty and Violet never truly disappeared. They just became less prominent because of their lack of discerning characteristics and personality (their only real trait was antagonizing Charlie Brown, although back in the early 50’s, Violet made mud pies). You don’t see Shermy appearing in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s, do you?
