Outstanding commentary. What is being abandoned is being replaced, in no small part, with what amounts to a destructive — and too often lethal — advanced technology equivalent of viral infection.
My “local” paper still publishes Tuesday through Saturday. They devote about 2 pages to local events and 1 page in the sports section to the local hockey team and the rest of the paper is made up of stories from other papers in the chain and from the News service for international events. The opinion pieces are national, not local. The comics and puzzle page consists of a sudoku, a crossword and 3 count them yes 3 comics. The paper is printed in anther city, about an hour away and is dropped off for the delivery people to pick up by 10 pm most nights. So any event that happens after about 6 pm Friday won’t make it to the print edition of the paper until Tuesday. The website usually stops updating by 10 pm Friday night, and doesn’t update again until after 6 pm Monday night. They only want $170 per year ($14 monthly) for “premium” digital access or $325 a year (24.00 every 4 weeks) for home delivery. taxes are extra. I get more local news from the national news service (CBC) then I get from my local paper.

I write my own paper. It’s mostly about me. Even the crosswords puzzle.
