Mom should do it because it’s the first time Calvin has shown any enthusiasm about going to school.

Who makes a six year-old walk to school by himself?

since when was school important to Calvin? (in a way, at least Calvin’s getting his 10,000 steps)

Mom’s already worked on waking you up, Calvin. She’s done enough today.

If he lives within walking distance, why does he even take the bus? I guess because I grew up in a rural town, bussing was for kids who lived outside the city limits.

As far as I know, In the UK, there have never been school-buses. We used public transport or walked…

I walked from kindergarten on, but usually with siblings or other kids.

Those were the days.

She will drive him….after she has coffee. No hurry. She will probably still beat the bus there if it, indeed, is still making a lot of stops.

Calvin’s mom doesn’t get to complain should she get a phone call from Calvin’s school telling her he didn’t come to class today.

It doesn’t work that way, Calvin!

I can picture Hobbs all cuddled up in the bed ~ just beginning the day of naps!

In Tokyo young kids take public transportation to school.

I remember those times I’d miss my crosstown bus to the college on account of a long red light at one intersection downtown followed by all the other traffic lights afterward being red, and by the time we’d get to the main bus terminal the other buses would be leaving! So I’d end up walking all the way to my college campus.

Went to a one-room country school in the 50’s. There were 6 of us in the whole school. A lot of individual attention from a wonderful teacher. My parents drove me to school (and home again). OK, the big boys picked on us little kids, but after a few years, we were the big kids. The 1%, whoever they are, didn’t have it any better than us.

Also, as I recall, kidnapping was punishable by the death penalty, so there is that little difference….

We moved several times. Some school I walked to, some I rode a bus. Walking was better.

Seems like a good idea, but it wouldn’t work for us – we have no sidewalks.

Nobody walks in L.A.

In a different time and place I walked a mile each way for twelve years. No, it was not uphill both ways…

I walked to school by my self when I was 6 years old.

I thought Calvin HATES going to school. Why doesn’t he just play hooky? But then, I guess that wouldn’t be very funny.

Reading this as a kid was the first time I saw an English word ending with V.

Mum’s right! He’ll take more care NOT to miss the bus in future, if he knows he’ll have to walk if he misses it.
