It’s referring to the old Superman Tv show. Watch them George Reeves just stands there while the bad guy shoots at him. Think the Superman pose feet spread hands behind back chest out for the bullets to bounce off. Crook runs out of bullets throws gun and George flinches every time. Funny as hell once you are old enough to realize what just happened.
I’m taking this one as an homage to George Reeves, because the guy shown here is obviously just an actor. Aside from the fact that the real Superman wouldn’t have this problem, the designer was very careless in creating the costume. The S isn’t correctly rendered, the belt buckle and boot tops are all wrong, and Superman doesn’t wear gloves.
