My dad answering the phone wasn’t the problem, it was one of my older brothers who would then threaten the caller with bodily harm if they ever called me again. Needless to say, since my one brother was just a year ahead of me in high school, I never had any dates in high school. When he graduated, he had one of his buddies a year younger than me keep an eye on me. They actually did me a huge favor although it didn’t seem like it at the time.
