One of the best things I learned while doing club dates and wedding gigs (can you say, “I live indoors?”) was to wink and do the finger-as-gun pointing thing. He (it’s always a he) will sit at the bar ordering drinks (which the manager loves) waiting for the song which will never be played. However, if he slips the trumpet player a twenty, guess what tune is coming up next.
