Back in the day (when the XFlies was new and must-see tv), my personal metaphor for it was Mulder as Sylvester the cat, getting the stuffing beat out of him by the “giant mouse” (kangaroo), turning to his son Junior AKA Scully. Junior/ Scully independently, coolly and casually assesses the situation, sees the mouse not the kangaroo, and says “Oh father. The shame”

“It’s right there! It looks just like a bush. There’s a kid in a Halloween costume hiding behind it.”

Love Scully! A role model for me of an intelligent female who doesn’t have to smile all the time.
