Seems like Mallett has been venting some snark for the last few strips. Not that the world doesn’t deserve to be snarked about the way it treats female athletes.
Frazz/Mallett are interchangeable at times. I recall him being a biker and into running, etc. So he prob knows a girl that got snubbed or something along that line.
So, there was some name-calling with Bernie and Liz Warren, and Hillary got involved, …, and I guess this has nothing to do with ultra long-distance anything.
As was stated in the women’s soccer team’s compliant about not getting equal pay, it has to do with the gate receipts seen by men versus women. Any pay discrimination is based on revenues generated by the sport and who is playing on the field..
A full marathon is not considered an ultra. Ultras are a hundred kilometers or more (some are run over several days), they are often run over trails or other rugged terrain. We’re talking seriously hard core. As more women get involved in the sport more women are overall winners, hence the debate.
Interesting – yesterday’s strip showed a flubbed response with a request to do it over again. Today’s strip had Caulfield doing it over again, but with a reasonable comment – it was about women, so it had to be very recently. Not sure exactly what was meant by the two out put together.
After figuring out what ultradistance sports are, in the first place, my first thought, given Frazz’s propensities, was for those intrepid folks, usually women, it seems, who like to swim the English Channel. Seems awfully daft to me, but actually quite fine for them, if that’s what, er, well, floats their boat. =^_____^=
The organizers of the Race Across America thought that women would clean up — and the first year women ran, all of them finished. (I think it was one-third of the men.)
But as time went on, it turned out that women who are crazy enough to enter the Race Across America are pretty thin on the ground.
http://www.gocomics.com/frazz/2020/01/22Come to think of that, it was also a mainstream sports story about ultradistance events, which I suppose could just as easily have given it away as relatively recent.

Females ARE better at ultradistance events. She can go for a couple of hours, I’m done in a minute-and-a-half.

Again, Frazz needs to be published with an “explainer”. Must be a joke in there somewhere.
