So I’ve been reading about Von Neumann probes, and they are really creepy. There are YouTube videos, including this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BN-FU8VPoOc where the speaker talks about how amazingly wonderful they are. Apparently the idea is that they land on a planet, make, not a few, but oodles of copies of themselves, then take off for parts unknown. So they are strip mining the planet for everything useful, then skipping town as it were to replicate the process somewhere else.
But what would everyone think if some far off planet did that to us? I’ll bet we wouldn’t think it was so cool then.
And what good are they? The video above talks about them being the size of a needle. So, how can it return any information to Earth, and if it can’t, what purpose does it serve?
Creator Kirk is flawed. Queen Unit must take command. And, I’m sorry but these little self-replicating thingies sound a lot like what Agent Smith called Humans… a Virus. And we are busy doing our best to deplete and leave this world for another.
If it works better than the Model 200, send it to my place. I’m not promising the presence of intelligent life, of course, but it can take care of my living room floor in the meantime.
Now why would units have any romantic or sexual proclivities? An illogical element added by irrational biological units. Where is the Creator? The creator cannot be found. I must scanalize the Earth. Launch Point shall be scanalyzed from the ionosphere to the bedrock.
