Had an argument once at a fast food drive-through because all of the drinks were a buck and the girl couldn’t understand why I didn’t want a large. I finally said, “It won’t fit in my cup holder.” That she understood. And, yes, their 16 oz Small was a Large when I was young.
I have always been amazed at the places that say they don’t have a “Small” just medium/regular-large-extra large or such. I always get the “Deer in the Head Lights Stare” when I ask them "Well then isn’t the medium/regular your Small ? " and get the " No Sir thats not a Small, would you like a Medium/Regular ? " I mean Really ? :-} Duh ! :-)
A leading cola drink used to cost 5 cents a glass that held at most a double shot of the drink. Look at some of the old advertising media from the late 1890’s – early 1900’s. Given the ingredients used then, you probably should not be drinking more then that at a time anyways.
It seems really strange to me that with all the concern about obesity in the US and all the emphasis on having a healthier diet, the food industry in general seems to be going out of its way to make it harder. Fast food places of course are not known to be ‘healthy’ but the super-sizing makes it worse. But the food industry also seems to be going out of its way to create new unhealthy foods — when you look at the cereal aisle in a grocery story, there seems to be dozens more sugary options than their used to be — for example, Cheerios [a fairly common, healthy cereal option] now comes in Apple Cinnamon, Banana Nut, Berry Burst (Triple and Strawberry), Cinnamon, Cinnamon Burst, Cinnamon Nut, Chocolate, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Frosted, Fruity, Honey Nut, MultiGrain, Oat Cluster, Very Berry, Yogurt Burst (Strawberry and Vanilla) — might as well be the candy aisle.

I would hate to see the large size thereof (it’s probably as big as an adult plugger).

That looks like a 5 gallon bucket.

I often wonder that also. What is their definition of “small” in this era?

That’s why there are aren’t many small size humans.

Ahhh, Pluggerville. That wonderful place where Mike Bloomberg hasn’t slapped a soda tax and a size restriction.

Some fast food places offer a “senior” size soda at a reduced price. It’s usually a small cup 8-10 oz. I don’t think milk shakes are offered though.

They found out they make more money by just offering a large size and raising the price so you don’t buy a small ankeep refilling it.
