Ouch! However the problem isn’t cats who defend us.
It is the intrusions of the Old Ones who are invisible and yet stink in a peculiar way. Cats protect us from them. (Remember when they look at something only they can see?) Sometimes it is an insect, other times an old one opens a door way and sticks its tentacle in to sow madness and mayhem in human nervous systems.
For some reason “cat scratch fever” can kill or maybe just damage certain aspects of the Old Ones. Keeps them away. No cats not protection from going feral and mass murderous. What we may call a “mucker” who lives to kill till dead.
