What’s the street value of African snails, and how long can they live on the street before they get run over??

Not just humans. It’s the mammalian diving reflex. I think it is only breathing that is shut down.

The giant snails tried to run away and escape, but their attempt was foiled by these quick and brave doggies who chased them down and caught them.

I don’t get it… it’s not Karaoke if the audience isn’t being tortured. That’s the meaning of the work in Japanese, “audience in pain.”:P

It’s called holding your breath. One time I was boogie boarding at Virginia Beach during a hurricane. (waves were 10-12 ft.)I did what is known as “going over the falls”, where I ended dropping off the top of the wave. I was under water so long that I swear my brain hemispheres were having an argument: Right hemi, “Breathe!” Left Hemi: “If you breathe, you are going to die.” Right Hemi: “Don’t listen to him, you need to breathe!” Left: “I’m tellin ya, if you breathe, you’re gonna die!” When I eventually came up one of my fins had come off. I saw it floating. As I tried to get it, I got buried again. When I finally got to shore, I was done for the day.

“Diving Reflex”? So there’s a chance that Jack survived the Titanic sinking?

We last visited Iceland – fortunately no giant Icelandic snails snuck into our luggage!

Perhaps a better explanation of how drowning differs from “shutting down bodily functions” would be in order?
