    In order to say “wash hands” in Spanish, it’d be “lavar las manos.” When talking about washing your own hands, it’d be “lavarse las manos” (yo me lavo las manos, tú te lavas las manos [“vos te lavás las manos” in Argentina], él/ella/usted se lava las manos, nosotros nos lavamos las manos, vosotros os laváis las manos, ellos/ustedes se lavan las manos). So I bet in the Spanish-printed “Ziggy” — without looking it up — the sign is using the former.

    I’ll never look at that sign the same way again! In fact, just for grins, next time I’m in a restaurant bathroom and an employee walks in, I’m going to inform him of his little known duty!
