Molly loved to ride, especially long trips. Within thirty minutes or less, she knew where we were going—my younger brother, older brother, or my mom’s beach house. She’d sigh happily then go to sleep. She also could sense when we were going to travel before we did anything, and she’d be paranoid that we would leave her behind, we never did, until I’d pack “her” suitcase and load it into the car.
The key word for my Labs has been: “Coffee.” When I head out to the coffee shop I simply say: “Hey Buddy, want to get coffee with me?” They will zoom upstairs or from whichever room they’re in and head to the door, ready for a ride!
“Wanna go bye-bye?” were the magic words that got my dog super-excited about going on a car ride somewhere. She passed away last June and I sure do miss taking that sweet little girl with me wherever I could and experiencing that same kind of infectious excitement right along with her — even if it was just to the bank or the post office. With the exception of the vet’s office, she was always up for an adventure. Anywhere. Anytime.
Well if this doesn’t remind me of our Alex (big black Lab). We’d say car and downstairs he ran to the door in the washroom that led out to the garage and he’d grab his tennis ball to chew on and sit and wait till we opened the door. We had a big Bronco at the time, he’d get in the back (jump in) and lay down smiling with his tennis ball in his mouth and sit up a lot to look at the other cars and people in them. He’d get a lot of waves and smiles which he loved.
My dog “Trouble” loved car rides. The only problem was she insisted on driving. She would climb into my lap when I was driving and help me with the gas and brake pedals as well as steering.

Bad for doggies, but it is always amusing seeing dogs heads hanging out of car windows with big smiles :D

My avatar runs out the door, does a quick Spin, and then does the pogo stick by the car.

“Angel” never wanted to ride in the car because the only place the car ever took her was the vet to get poked again.
